4 weeks ago today we photographed the wedding of Kinzy and DT – an amazing couple from Chicago we spent the last 7 months getting to know via Skype, email and phone. Andy and I woke up energized and inspired for their amazing day! And then the rain began. A little drizzle at first, alternating with heavy rainfall. Their first look had been planned outside for 1:00 across from the Prestige Hotel, downtown Kelowna. We crossed our fingers and hoped for a break in the clouds but it didn’t come. So instead, we embraced the day with it’s wet surprise…and all the good luck supposed to accompany it!
Here is their beautiful first look in the Kelowna Rose Gardens, complete with a white balloon release from TTM Events. All Kinzy’s idea!
It was as if the clouds were anticipating their final moments, for just 10 minutes in to the first look it began raining harder and harder, forcing us indoors. We grabbed some photos of the wedding party outside the lobby entrance, and then drove off in the limo to our rainy day backup spot.
Everyone in this wedding party had such great shoes. Kizzy’s specifically were killer! Their 4-inch platform helped just a little to bring her close to DT’s height, but at 6’6″ there was still little contest who is tallest! They wanted to embrace the height difference, so we decided to have just a bit of fun with a photo of Kinzy “crushing” DT’s head. Haha. Turned out pretty good considering the rain restrictions!
On a cold, wet day one of the things we like to do is add a pop of mock “sunlight” to our images, to give that extra pop of colour and vibrancy. Here, indoors, we did just that and are so happy with the results!!!
And we want to give a huge shout-out to Kristen at Lavender and Lace for their exquisite wedding bouquets, boutonnieres and floral arch at the ceremony. Truly stunning!!!
After wedding party and couple portraits downtown Kelowna, we drove to The Harvest Golf Club for the ceremony, officiated by Bonnie Schneider. And just as we arrived, the sun graced us with her golden glow piercing through the clouds! Such a treat.
Kinzy and DT had such a perfect ceremony and we were honoured to capture their tender love for one another. The day really couldn’t have turned out any better! The reception inside the dining room had so many thoughtful touches. In fact, just weeks before their wedding Kinzy discovered her decorator was MIA…so she quite literally arranged most of this herself, with help from TTM Events. Didn’t she do a beautiful job?!
What reception would be complete without lots of laughter and some fun traditions? DT’s family is from Bulgaria, so they were sure to incorporate a couple of really awesome customs. After the entrance DT’s mom presented the couple with a round bread, which they stood under, back to back, to break – each attempting to get the bigger half. Naturally, Kinzy rose to the challenge and apparently now she will have the final say in the family! Lucky gal! She also was presented a small pot with white and red flowers on the floor to kick over. Tradition says that whichever colour flower lands furthest ahead will be the first child – red for boy and white for girl. We are excited to one day find out if the folklore is true!
After more fun and games, followed by absolutely to-die-for food and desserts, speeches and dancing began. These are definitely some our favourite wedding moments to photograph!
Dimitar and Kinzy – we think the world of you! Your love is pure, your family and friends amazing, and your future together most certainly bright. You have everything required for a wonderful marriage to last a lifetime. We wish you every blessing! Thank you, thank you for entrusting us to capture your wedding day and inviting us to be a part of your lives (and for the baby gifts!!!). You are so thoughtful, not to mention gorgeous together. We are thrilled to know you!
