1. Contact, Consult and Book your Professional
When there’s a huge event coming up, whether it’s your wedding day, or attending a special event, you should consider hiring a professional hair and makeup artist(s). Booking them as early as possible, will secure your spot in their busy schedule. This step is crucial in making sure your day goes smoothly. Your first step is to contact a professional makeup & hair stylist. The second step is to request a booking for a consultation. If you’re satisfied and confident in the outcome, do secure them right away. If this is your wedding day, this will be the most photographed day of your life.
Many brides postpone booking their professional makeup & hair services too close to their wedding day. This may result in having them already booked up. Well my dear friends, the truth is that we book up very fast and I highly recommend that you book well in advance. As for weddings, I would book 6 months ahead. Always do your research, ask around for quotes and the most important objective is to find your shared style and connection with your hair and makeup artist.

There are many freelancing makeup and hair artists out there today. Make sure you research them and check their websites, portfolios, licenses, experience and prioritize meeting for a trial to ensure they are they fun and inspiring to have around on YOUR big day.
2. Skin care & beauty prep
I remind my clients all the time, proper skincare leads to a beautiful makeup application. When booking with our company, we guide our clients towards a total beauty regime leading up to your special day. I am a fully qualified skin care therapist and beautician. Teaching my brides about their skin and giving them take home advice and skin care regimes is very important to me.
Cleansing, toning, exfoliating, moisturising and weekly mask routines leading up to your wedding day can create a flawless complexion. We are here to improve your skin’s appearance for your wedding day. Not only will your skin feel great it will look amazing too.

3. The morning of
Arrive with no makeup on. Your skin (and I) will love you if you let it breathe the morning of the wedding by arriving with no makeup on. This includes no mascara or eyeliner. We would have to take time removing prior makeup and this leads to irritated/reddened skin so coming with a fresh face is a highly recommended bonus!

4. Have clean and dry hair
We prefer you to come with your hair clean and free from any products. You should wash and blow dry your hair the night before. This way we can style your hair and add product as we go. We will be on a time schedule and if clients come with wet hair, this can eat up our precious time by drying and restyling leaving less time to create beautiful styles for you and your bridal party. You know your hair and skin the best, so please use your judgement as best as possible. Do tell us anything and everything about your features, allergens, etc.

5. Book your trials
This goes for both hair and makeup. I recommend booking your trials a couple months prior to your wedding day. Why? Well, the sun tans and changes your skin, and the winter can leave you with a more pale complexion. As for your hair, the sun bleaches the colour and we want to practise our style with as similar as possible of colour and length as we will have on your wedding day.
You can incorporate your bridal trials into your engagement shoot, date night, or another big event. During our trials we make sure each and every client is completely satisfied with their final look. This might mean that we take out the hair 3 times, or redo the makeup, add more colour, decrease shadow or more contour etc. We have a private makeup and hair studio which most of our brides come to. Purposefully, we establish a great connection and get to know you so that on the big day it is both comfortable and efficient.
6. Why should you hire a Professional?
Wedding makeup and hair is different than just your regular daily routine. Your professional wedding makeup/hair artist has experience in all styles, trends and techniques so your makeup/hair lasts 16 hours while you dance your butt off, sip your champagne and of course kiss your new husband. We do great work and we can do it fast.
We always take into consideration your wedding day timeline and schedule out each service so that there is NO STRESS. We are used to working under pressure and with time constraints. We have adapted to thinking on our toes, having back up plans, and better yet, making you feel so very special no matter the pace.

We are here to create your dream look. If you can imagine a certain style of makeup, just tell us. Ask us to redo things, it won’t hurt our feelings and we don’t take things personally. As a professional makeup artist, we know what photographs well.
When you hire a hairstylist, they know how to prep your hair, and style it in any way you desire. Wedding hair stylists don’t just do great hair, but we make it last. Doing your hair by yourself, you could end up with loose stringy hair by cocktail hour. We provide all hair products, bobby pins ect so you don’t have to worry about anything. Having a pro at your wedding takes the pressure and anxiety away.
Finding a company which offers both hair and makeup services for you is a bonus! Kathryn Ramsay Esthetics has a team of artists who specialize in both hair and makeup.
7. Hair Extensions
These delightful hair additions create volume and length. I recommend the clip in extensions as you can re use them anytime and do not ruin your hair. Have your hair stylist cut them for you prior to the big day so when you come for your trial, they are evened out and suit your face shape.

When you’re looking at wedding makeup and hair stylist rates, don’t think of it as prices for services. Think of it as a price for peace of mind and some precious free time on a morning when you’ll otherwise have very little.
